Merry Christmas from the Jehrings!

We apologize for the late Christmas card – Since we wished you a Happy New Year too, I think that gives us an extended deadline ;)

Hannah is obsessed with the email newsletter “TheSkimm” so while reading theSkimm for the day, Hannah thought she would format the yearly newsletter the same way!

Enjoy

Skimm for Year of 2014

Skimm’d while listening to Christmas music.

QUOTE OF THE DAY

“Did I really just lose the Fantasy Football Championship due to a tummy ache?” – Ian. Ian’s last chance to clinch The Leo League trophy and to have bragging rights in the Leonard Family Fantasy Football league for the year landed on his final player, Marshawn Lynch to have the game of his life! To bad the NFL player had a little tummy ache and had to sit out for most of the first half until it passed.

THINGS PEOPLE ARE TALKING ABOUT

VIRGINIA

THE STORY

On December 8, 2014 Ian and Hannah embarked on a new adventure we packed up all our things and moved to Harrisonburg, VA. Why Virginia? Ian accepted a job as an Associate Specialist for Engineering with Merck & Co. which is a fancy title saying he makes prescription drugs. If you ever find yourself in the hospital with an infection (lets hope not!) and the doctor gives you the antibiotic, Primaxin®, you will now know who helped make it!

WHAT HAPPENED?

Last May, Ian graduated from Iowa State University with a Master of Science in Biomedical Sciences. He was determined to find a full-time position that incorporated both biomedical sciences and chemical engineering. Since his education was so specific (and it is 2014) it was a little more difficult to find a job. Five months later he had three on-site job interviews lined up all in the same week! Ian traveled to Memphis, Virginia and Illinois. By the end of the week Ian was offered all three positions! Ian decided to accept the position with Merck & Co. for its career growth and work climate.

Hannah and Ian moved to Harrisonburg, VA for Ian’s new position at Merck & Co. making prescription drugs. Even though the weather isn’t much warmer then Iowa they are quickly realizing why Harrisonburg’s nickname is the “The Friendly City”.

REPEAT AFTER ME…

WHAT TO SAY WHEN HANNAH NO LONGER WORKS AT HY-VEE…

Yes Uncle Randy, Hannah no longer works at Hy-Vee. Due to the move, Hannah had to leave her position as a registered dietitian at Hy-Vee. Not only did she leave Hy-Vee, but she also left Hy-Vee Land. Harrisonburg, VA is not as advanced as Iowa in the nutrition department and do not have registered dietitian in all the grocery stores (Maybe Hannah can introduce them to the idea?). Hannah is waiting for the appropriate position to come up that will allow her experience benefit the right company! In the meantime, Hannah is getting the new townhome in order, enjoying the time off during the busy Christmas season, and most importantly not having to commute two hours a day!

WHAT TO SAY WHEN YOU REALIZED WE HAVE NOW BEEN MARRIED FOR 4 ½ MONTHS…

Time sure does fly! Last time we saw most of you was on our wedding day in August. Married life has treated us well. Hannah changed here last name and is realizing how much stuff still has Kubicek linked to it. Hannah and Ian got a joint checking account and Hannah’s new drink of choice went from beer to wine… you know classic newlywed stuff. Since we have been married, we have found out several new things about each other: 1. Hannah is paranoid about burning the townhouse down 2. Hannah does not like to take Ian grocery shopping with her. And 3. Ian has learned to keep an emergency blanket before going to bed because Hannah steals the covers - Every. Single. Night.

WHAT TO SAY WHEN YOU RECEIVE A CHRISTMAS CARD AFTER CHRISTMAS…

Life is short, eat more cake.
